THE UNFIXING hits cinemas: a journey of hope between body and Earth

After an intense journey through international festivals, THE UNFIXING —directed by Nicole Betancourt and produced by Horizontal Films (Spain) and Nota Bene Productions (U.S.)— finally arrives in cinemas.

This week the documentary will be screened in two very special sessions:

🎬 Tuesday, November 11 · 8 PM – Cinemes Girona (Barcelona)
Followed by a Q&A with the team moderated by Mariona Borrull, film critic and programmer. Get tickets

🎬 Wednesday, November 12 · 8 PM – Cinema Truffaut (Girona)
Followed by a Q&A with writer Maria Mercè Roca. Get tickets

Both screenings offer a unique opportunity to reflect on the film’s central themes: health, the climate crisis, and the deep interconnection between the human experience and the Earth we inhabit.

As journalist Bea Talegón writes in ElNacional.cat:

The Unfixing embodies precisely what Emotional Ecology proposes: acknowledging that our inner world, contaminated by hopelessness and imbalance, resonates with an outer world that is also ailing — and that only through the responsible care of both can we find the path toward hope and renewal.”

A reflection that permeates every frame of the film, where the intimate and the planetary intertwine with honesty and sensitivity.

A year of festivals and recognition

The Unfixing has just screened at two major Catalan festivals:

🌱 SUNCINE – International Environmental Film Festival, where it inaugurated the screenings at the Atrium Theatre in Viladecans. The event featured opening remarks by Encarni García Jiménez, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Sustainability of Viladecans City Council, and Jaume Gil i Llopart, the festival’s director.

The film competes in the Ñ Section, dedicated to the best environmental cinema of Spanish production or co-production, with a jury composed of Mireia Gubern Badia, Elvira Cámara López, and Assumpta Serna.

SUNCINE is the oldest environmental film festival in the world. Its mission —in the words of its organizers— is “to educate through entertainment and raise awareness through emotion, using the audiovisual medium as both instrument and language.” Since its 26th edition, the festival (formerly FICMA) has taken on the name SUNCINE, reaffirming its role as a meeting point between the film industry and the public, taking the pulse of the planet through the most current environmental films.

🔥 MEMORIMAGE – International Film Festival of Reus, held at the iconic Teatre Bartrina, presented the film with an introduction by Agustí Argelich, festival director.

Now celebrating its 20th edition, Memorimage delves into fascinating biographies and personal stories, highlighting the healing power of cinema and images. Dedicated exclusively to films using archival footage, the festival marks two decades of commitment to preserving and reimagining our collective audiovisual heritage. Recognized by UNESCO for its cultural significance, Memorimage stands as a leading international reference in the creative reuse of archives.

Next stop: cinemas

After a year of international premieres and recognition, THE UNFIXING arrives in Catalan theatres to meet its audience — a film that reminds us that healing the planet begins with listening to our bodies, our emotions, and our communities.
