Rose Kowalski with Awards at Cerdanya Film Fest

The Unfixing triumphs at Cerdanya Film Festival 2025

The Unfixing shines at the Cerdanya Film Festival 2025 with two awards and a warm audience reception

The Cerdanya Film Festival concluded its 16th edition with a widely distributed awards list and a historic record of participation: more than 25,000 spectators and participants attended the screenings, concerts, and parallel activities of the festival, which has established itself as a must-see summer cinema event in the Pyrenees.

One of the night’s biggest triumphs was the documentary The Unfixing, by New York filmmaker Nicole Betancourt, which received two jury awards:

  • Best International Documentary
  • Best Cinematography

The film’s producer, Rose Kowalski, attended the closing gala and personally accepted both awards on behalf of the team, moved by the reception the film had received in Puigcerdà.

Regarding the screening, festival director Jordi Forcada highlighted its strong emotional impact:

“With this documentary, people left the theater in tears. It was incredibly moving—the story… It’s a very personal story from Nicole herself… pure emotion with spectacular cinematography. That we were able to premiere it here has been a great success… I recommend it: when it’s on television, streaming platforms, or in cinemas, it’s a truly, truly great film.”

Besides The Unfixing, the festival also recognized other outstanding productions. Oliver Laxe’s film Sirat took home Best Original Screenplay and Best Individual Performance for Sergi López. The short film Marina by Marta Brichs also stood out with two awards: Best Spanish Short Film and Emerging Talent.

The awards list also included titles such as Parenostre by Manuel Huerga (Audience Award for Feature Films), Esmorza amb mi by Iván Morales (Best Film in Catalan), and Abril by Alexandra Iglesias (Best Short in Catalan), among many others.

With this edition, the Cerdanya Film Festival reinforces its commitment to combining top-tier screenings with social and cultural activities and reaffirms its role as a benchmark for the film industry in Catalonia and Spain.
